PSHE Centre of Excellence
We are a PSHE Centre of Excellence!
Our PSHE Centre of Excellence status recognises our work in demonstrating, sustaining and improving PSHE across the Federation and sharing this good practice across Westminster and beyond.
We offer support to other schools looking to improve parent engagement and how children manage risk. Please contact the school office for more information and to book a visit.
At Robinsfield we have worked hard so that every child is confident, safe and feels able to take appropriate risks.
We have embedded the idea of risk into our curriculum and have made this a central part of our mindfulness and metacognition teaching and learning. As part of our MindUp programme, we have given children a vocabulary to talk about how their brains are making them feel. By doing this, children are given the skills to overcome their feelings and triumph over challenges, both in the classroom and wider world. This was seen in Key Stage 1’s visit to Go Ape, where children were utilising this taught vocabulary to help them overcome the risk.
The second core element of becoming a PSHE Centre of Excellence involved us increasing our overall levels of parental engagement. We have measured the increase in parental engagement through several surveys, informal conversations and monitoring the numbers of parents coming to our frequent parent and family workshops.
Our parent and family workshops have helped parents knowledge of their child’s learning. We have held family workshops on core subjects such as Maths, English and Science as well as more general workshops on Growth Mindset, Sleep, E-Safety, MindUp and Healthy Eating. We have worked in partnership with our School Nurse Caroline to help deliver relevant workshops that parents want to attend.
We have also found that family workshops where parents learn alongside their children has proven especially effective in bringing parents into school. The surveys of these workshops have also highlighted the enjoyment of parents and children to working together in school.
